Chunky Monkey Dessert

We hosted another dinner party down by the pool again for some of our friends. I made this dessert for another dinner party and it was a big hit.  I added bananas for more flavor. I thought it would be good to make this for this particular group of friends.  I love how you can make it the day before.

To make this more fun, I made chocolate monkey sugar cookies that hang off the side of the dessert dish.

I found the cookie cutter on Amazon. You can find it here.

Walkway down to pool. We have trumpet vines growing on our arbors.

I used the same melamine dishes, because they are light weight and easy to carry and put away.
We have some beautiful sunsets.  Our bar area is great for sipping cocktails and taking in the sunset.

It's been a busy week with doctor's appointments. My biopsy is normal. My thumb has been really hurting, so I had an x-ray. It seems I have thinning cartilage and arthritis.
The perils of getting older. I also had a bone density scan....thyroid blood panels, pneumonia shot plus my very important Ca-125 blood test. I have urged many of you to request this test.
It is a marker for ovarian cancer. Just a precaution.  Have a wonderful week.

  5. Linda, thank you for sharing this and the link to the cutter. I'm going to order one. What a fun dessert!
Thanks for the tips. I requested the test years ago, and my doctor was hesitant to add it. He said insurance wouldn't cover it. I insisted. Sure enough, I had to pay for it, and it is expensive. I don't think that is right! It should be routine!

  6. WOW WOW WOW. Linda, your yard looks like FRANCE! Then the scene with the Polynesian style parasols, it now looks like HAWAII! And what a fun and festive dessert! You mentioned in your visit (thank you!) that you are no longer getting my posts in your email; well, neither am I getting yours! I totally missed notification of this post since I got nothing in my inbox.

I wonder where the glitch is.....

Enjoy your day dearest Linda! Anita

  9. Oh that monkey is the cutest! I assume you have to assemble this at the last minute because of the whipping cream? It looks delicious!

  12. Linda, this dessert looks amazing. Love those chocolate monkeys hanging on. And do you know that brownies are my favorite dessert? Your pool area looks gorgeous. You have the most wonderful home décor, and I really like seeing all your great ideas. Love the red color theme. I'm so glad you're doing well with your health, my friend.

It's not too hot this week, so I'm lovin' that.

  13. I just finished the rest of the chunky monkey trifle - and oh, my gosh, it was fabulous. I said "forget the calories....live on the edge!" and boy, was I happy. I've been thinking about you - sounds like things are going better.

  14. I printed this recipe out! I'll wait to make it when all the kids are home so there will be no leftovers to tempt me. What an amazing dish that would be with the monkey cookies! You are so creative. And being a guest at your poolside watching the sunset would be such a memorable evening. I love the touches of color around that echo that of the beautiful trumpet vine!

  16. Good Afternoon Linda, My word, you have a beautiful garden... and the views, well they are spectacular. I used to grow Trumpet vines when I lived in Cyprus, but the weather is too cool here in the North of England. I love the name of your dessert.... Chunky Monkey. It reminds me of our trifles, but yours is filled with lots of chocolatey goodness. A perfect dessert for a perfect evening.
    Best Wishes

  17. Your chunky monkey looks delicious. So glad your biopsy is ok. Your pool area is beautiful! We had a pool at our other house, so I spent my summers lifeguarding for our own kids! Ha! I have no plans to install one at our new house...so I enjoy others virtually. Ha! Sheila
