Follow By Email Widget (Feedburner) No More

Ok, there has been an announcement made about email subscription service going away.  Blogger's email subscription widget, also known as FollowByEmail Widget will be turned off July 2021.

I know many of you blogger still use FeedBurner, so I hope this post is helpful.

Here is the official notice:
From that date on, your readers will not receive any email notification. The feed will continue, but the automated emails will not.  So that means if you want to continue notifying your subscribers by an email, you have to change to a new subscription service.

Before you decide on which newsletter marketing company you are going with, you should export your Feedburner's Subscriber's list.
You will also notice lots of pending subscribers.  Delete those.  Also look at your email subscribers.  Some are spam.  I think most are using outlook.
You want to purge those awful emails before you import them into your new email marketing service.  They have limits.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD MY SUBSCRIBER CONTACTS FROM FEEDBURNER:
  1. Click Analyze and then select Subscribers
  2. Click Feedburner Email Subscriptions, then click Manage Your Email Subscriber List.  This opens a new page.
  3. Scroll down until you see View Subscriber Details
  4. Click Export:CSV
  5. You now have a copy of all your subscribers.
  6. You will need this list when you go with another Email marketing Company.

There are different possibilities for email notifications. I use MailChimp which is FREE for up to 2,000 subscribers.  After 2,000 there is monthly charges, depending on which plan you choose. MailChimp is the most popular marketing tool.

A few more choices below.

1-1,000 Subscribers 1200 Emails per month : FREE

There are  many more marketing options you can choose.  Most comes with a monthly charge. I hope this isn't too confusing.  I just wanted to explain what is happening with Feedburner.  No more emails to your readers when you write a new post.

I do offer my services of moving from Feedburner to MailChimp if you decide to make the move. It involves importing your subscriber list into Mailchimp. after it is exported from FeedBurner.  It is the CSV file you exported from Feedburner.  Creating a list and also creating a sign up form. There are more options if you decide you want more. I found this video tutorial for those who wish to set MailChimp themselves.

  3. Thank you, Linda. I'll see if I can do this myself but you never know. Computer wizardry is not my strong suit! That's wonder to know you are willing/able to help us! And thanks for sharing more on this. I, too, received the notice and have been at a loss to even know how to search for another program. I will definitely go with Mail Chimp. Thanks again.

  5. I read that the vast majority of email addresses on the gadget just belong to bots. Do you think that's true?

    1. When you go to www.feedburner.google.com you see Analyze on the top left. Then click Subscribers.

  10. Thanks so much for writing this post. Will this work with TinyLetter? I know that Mail Chimp owns them, and I use that platform for my monthly newsletter.

  12. Hi Linda! I saw on one of the blogs I follow, Jeanie at Marmalade Gypsy your step by step directions saving our subscriber list. Thank you. I must say I was quite horrified when I saw my subscriber list which totaled over 900! And a good chunk was spam. I didn't know that my followers list which is about 46 or so was different. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to do this. Now I just need to figure out the Mail Chimp free option and adding it to my blog page.

  13. Linda,
I just exported my subscriber list and I deleted tons of emails from outlook which you mentioned is spam. Can you let me know what your fee would be for setting up Mailchimp. I may try to do it myself first but I am just curious. Thanks, Deb

  14. Hi Linda, I just subscribed! I came over from Judy at Gold Country Cottage blog. I also have subscribed to her blog for a few years. I have a very small blog with no advertising. I've seen the coming change and have debated on whether to make the change or just quit blogging! If I do decide to go ahead and make the change, I think I will need your help! What is your charge and how can we proceed? Please email me. My address is pinkpapercottage@yahoo.com I usually don't receive notice of replies when I comment on someone's blog either, so I won't see if you reply, so if you can email me, then we can communicate that way. I prefer email also. I would probably go with Mailchimp. I used them years ago when I had an alpaca farm and I remember they were very user friendly. Looking forward to hearing from you! thanks...
