With the new year, I have been helping some bloggers with some issues. I have some suggestions below. I also have commented in the Blogger community assisting people with Blogger problems. You can find some of my posts under Linda P.
BLOGGER ACCOUNT RECOVERY
A few bloggers couldn't get into their blogs. It is usually because they forgot which email account they used. I usually help them along the way through account recovery.
Forgot the email address you use to sign in
- Follow the steps to find your username. You’ll need to know:
- A phone number or the recovery email address for the account
- The full name on your account
- Follow the instructions to confirm it’s your account.
- You’ll see a list of usernames that match your account.
COMMENTING
Blogger has several comment systems. One of them requires the use of third party cookies. If they are blocked, then you will not be able to comment.
Some bloggers had a problem commenting with the Safari browser, I recommended they try Chrome. That seemed to work for many. Others that have issues commenting need to make sure third party website tracking is enabled.
Check Safari/Preferences/Privacy and make sure Block all cookies isn't checked. If that doesn't work, try unchecking Prevent cross-site tracking.
UPLOADING PHOTOS
Blogger also changed the way photos are named after uploading. Images imported into Blogger from the post editor are now being stored at urls that begin at a new blogger subdomain at the googleusercontent.com domain. For instance I used this photo below in a post.
I uploaded the same photo at different times, meaning the first I used and it gave me a totally different link. See the difference in the links? Blogger took away my image name and gave it a long string of letters. It makes it difficult to see each photo's name. Bloggers that use third party templates, (meaning not a Blogger template) sometimes have issues with their photos, first thumbnail or images in slider being blurry.
I for one had an issue with my thumbnails being blurry. I found a fix for my template to fix it. If you have an issue with blurry photos, just get in touch with me.
PROBLEM EDITING GADGETS
Another blogger contacted me telling me she could not edit her gadgets on her layout page. She was using a Macbook and Safari. I told her to download Chrome and it worked for her. Blogger also took away the little wrench for editing.

Click Email.
Your email address should be in the box. Remove it! Click Save settings. Now Add it back in, click enter and click Save settings.

ADDING PHOTOS SIDE BY SIDE
Your have to create a table. in the HTML part of your post.
<table>
<tr>
<td><img border="0" width="100px" height="100px" src="IMAGE 1 LINK HERE" /></td>
<td><img border="0" width="100px" height="100px" src="IMAGE 2 LINK HERE" /></td>
</tr>
</table>
<tr>
<td><img border="0" width="100px" height="100px" src="IMAGE 1 LINK HERE" /></td>
<td><img border="0" width="100px" height="100px" src="IMAGE 2 LINK HERE" /></td>
</tr>
</table>
Grab your two photo urls. Add the first one where it says IMAGE 1 LINK HERE.
Add the second image where it says IMAGE 2 LINK HERE.
You can change the size by changing the height and width where it says 100px.
To center them, add <center> before the table and add </center> after the bottom table. These hearts were changed to 300px height and width.
A Valentines Tablescape Blog Hop is coming up on January 25th.

ReplyDeleteSo helpful, Linda! Thank you so much for always being there for other bloggers. I don't seem to be having issues at the moment (and I'm sure I just jinxed myself!), but this is a great reference.
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Linda for always being generous with your time and knowledge.
ReplyDeleteWow,you amaze me! I am not sure I even understood some of that!
ReplyDeleteBoy I’m glad I’m not having those issues. Thankfully you’re there to save me if I do!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips here, Linda!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these tips Linda. It's been so frustrating having all the changes that make using Blogger more complicated and they don't make it easy to find any help. Will have to try the one for the gadgets - I noticed that same issue and it was driving me crazy having to go to the layout and try to edit from there where everything is unlabeled. Keep these great hints coming!!
