An Island Getaway - Poipu, Kauai

Aloha!

Sorry I was missing from posting.  We traveled to Kauai for two weeks.  Our favorite island getaway. I invited a girlfriend, June to join us. We have a timeshare, so we try to go every other year. During Covid, we stayed home.  We stay at the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club Poipu, Kauai. The view from our room. We were on the 4th floor with a fantastic view. Who doesn't love a tropical getaway?  We were overdue.

We were greeted with this towel creation.  I have seen these also on my cruise trips.

The first night we go in, we went to Keoke's. Paradise  We enjoyed a Mai Tai and a Lava Flow.  My lava flow was served in a pineapple. We all three ordered fish and chips.  The fish was a heavier fish.  I prefer a lighter fish.
The very next day, we headed to Costco to stock up on food and water.  It's great to dine out sometimes, but that can get old.  There are plenty of grills around the resort.

Paul sitting on the Schnauzer bench.  We sure missed our own Schnauzers, Dante & Bella.
The Grand Hyatt

The Grand Hyatt has beautiful grounds ands and lovely shopping.

The Spouting Horn.  We always visit.  This year we were surprised to learn the shopping kiosks were gone.  They were always a fun spot to pick up local jewelry.

June and I at the Makauwahi Cave Reserve. We always visit each time to visit Kauai. Across the way is the Tortoise Rescue.

The Makauwahi Cave is the largest limestone cave found in Hawaii. It lies on the south coast of the island of Kauaʻi, in the Māhāʻulepū Valley close to Māhāʻulepū Beach, and is important for its paleoecological and archaeological values.

Here's Paul holding up the cave...LOL

June at the entrance to Makauwahi Cave . Several movies were filmed here.  Raiders of The Lost Ark plus Pirates of The Carribean.

I booked the Lu’au Kalamaku at the Gaylord's Plantation for the three of us.

The luau was fantastic and so much fun to watch.  The hula dancers.  I love watching the women dance the tahitian dance plus the men are so impressive with their style of dancing.

The ʻōteʻa is a traditional dance from Tahiti characterized by a rapid hip-shaking motion to percussion accompaniment.
June and I at the luau.

Paul at the Sheraton.
I also booked a Sunset cruise on the Blue Dolphin.  We saw some whales while cruising.  It was pretty exciting to see some breach.

Paul and I celebrated our anniversary at Merriman's restaurant in Koloa.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner with Macadamia Nut  crusted Mahi Mahi with a triangle of  Jasmine rice, Sautéed green beans and a  sake mushroom reduction.

They comped us a sweet dessert for our anniversary. The words are Hau'oli lā Ho'omana'o
which means, Happy Anniversary.

For our anniversary, Paul surprised me with this beautiful Mahi Disc Necklace. He was very sneaky.  While we were browsing the store, I pointed how beautiful the necklace is.  He went back to the store one day saying he was off to buy some beer. He put the necklace in my anniversary card as a surprise.

  1. Linda, what a wonderful trip to Hawaii. What a beautiful resort to celebrate your anniversary. It's so nice that you were able to go with your friend too. I enjoyed looking at the photos and the food and drinks looked good too. I visited Hawaii back in 2016, and we loved it. I can't wait to go back again sometime.

  8. What an exciting trip you and Paul and your friend enjoyed. Kauai is a lovely island and all of you look wonderful, love you and Paul were dressed in blue. Beautiful pics, love the one of you and Paul. How special was the necklace Paul surprised you with. He's a true romantic! Jim and I visited there years ago and the hotel looks much the same as the one we stayed in. We rented scooters and enjoyed riding beachside and into the little town of Poipu where we stopped for ice cream. It was a dreamy trip. I think it must have been so much fun to have your friend along on the trip. Thanks for sharing all the pics, it brought back wonderful memories for me. Happy Spring Linda and Paul.......

  17. Loved this post Linda and such gorgeous pictures! I have not been to Kauai but we try to get to Maui every couple of years. We were married on the beach there 20 years ago so it is such a special place for us. I keep saying that we need to change things up and visit a different island but then we get there, see the whales, settle into island time, and stay put! Maybe someday though. I'm glad you got away and thanks so much for sharing!
