Hootin It Up for Autumn

Autumn starts this year on September 22nd. I am so ready.  Many of us have suffered through an extremely hot summer.  This week our temps are in the 80's and the nights are in the 50's.
For owl watchers, autumn is sometimes called  "the hooting season." It's when the birds of prey lay claim to promising habitat and get a jump start on their late-winter breeding season, warning intruders to stay away while advertising their prowess to potential mates.

My table and  breakfast room are heavily adorned with black and white.  Lots of Mackenzie Child's Courtly Check.

My MKC Courtly Check Stately vase is holding some white roses, alongside two sweet owls.
Lots of checkered decor is showing.  The tall topiaries are from Grandin Road years ago.  I love how they mimic Mackenzie Childs.

Seeing an owl at night can mean good luck and prosperity are in store.  I have seen an owl twice in our pool pump house.

The MKC owl mugs are soooo cute.  A cup of coffee or tea is a must with these cuties.

  4. Linda, You have such a wonderful collection of MKC pieces and I love that you use them and show them off in table settings. My mother collected owls and when she moved in with me her owl collection got boxed up and I don't know what happened to it. I think my brother took it but, if he did, his wife probably got rid of it.
We have owls in the woods next to us and I love how they hoot when I walk Scruffy at night. It has never been eerie to me.
Have a wonderful upcoming weekend. I am hoping to get back into my blogging mode now that fall is rolling in. xo xo xo Diana

  11. Love your table with all your Courtly Check paired with your owls Linda! 🦉 I’m ready for all things fall too. We’ve enjoyed a cool down with temps like yours…highs in the 80s and lower humidity which is a welcome change. I’ve only seen an owl once and it was during the day and flew off too quickly for me to get a photo. Happy Weekend!

  12. This is so beautiful, Linda! It's elegant and whimsical all at the same time. We actually have been hearing the owls outside at night lately. It's a wonderful whirring hoot and it's been lulling me to sleep...

  17. Linda, I was a Chi Omega in college, so owls have long had a special place in my heart. They are such interesting and amazing birds. When I was teaching, I taught a unit on owls. I learned many fascinating facts about these birds. Both of these table delight my senses! Of course I adore the Courtly Check look, but the previous autumn setting does as well. Thanks for inspiring me to set my own owl themed table soon.

  18. Your table is beautiful! I really love owls and have been lucky enough to spot one or two in the wild-- usually in later fall when the trees have shed more of their leaves.
